The actor Sean Bean has agreed to join the Sheffield United board following talks with club officials over the weekend.

The 42-year-old, who is a lifelong fan of The Blades, has agreed to make a investment in the club, although the exact figure has not been disclosed.

Acting chairman Kevin McCabe said: "Sean is excited with our plans for the future of the club.

"We are delighted that another true Blade has joined the board of Sheffield United. Sean loves the Blades and he is not afraid of telling the world about his support for us.

"There cannot be too many soccer clubs who have such a high-profile ambassador and fan."

He starred in the film When Saturday Comes - which featured scenes at Bramall Lane - as well as Patriot Games and Lord of The Rings, and may be introduced to the fans prior to this Saturday's visit of Walsall.
