Bean thumbs killer role in new 'Hitcher'
Sean Bean is thumbing his way to "The Hitcher," Rogue Pictures' remake of the 1986 horror film being produced by Platinum Dunes. Sophia Bush also is on board the film, which is being directed by veteran music video helmer Dave Meyers. The script follows a young couple driving across the country who become prey for a serial killer, who blames all of his murders on the young man. Eric Bernt wrote the current draft. Bean will carve out the serial killer role made famous by Rutger Hauer in the original. Bush (WB Network's "One Tree Hill") has been cast as the young woman; casting is imminent on the young man. Producing are Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller as well as Charles Meeker and Alfred Haber. Production is scheduled to start this month in Austin and Santa Fe, N.M. Bean, repped by CAA and ICM London, is shooting "The Outlaw," directed by Nick Love. The series of historical telepics produced in the 1990s that featured Bean in the star-making role of British army Lt. Richard Sharpe recently aired for the first time in the U.S. on BBC America. He is best known here for his appearances in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy as well as recent features "Flightplan" and "North Country." (Borys Kit)

19 March 2006 | Sean joins in Millers battle (from Sheffield Today)
HOLLYWOOD heartthrob Sean Bean has stepped in to help struggling Rotherham United football club.
The mad-keen Sheffield United fan has donated a signed, framed shirt to the Save Our Millers fund, backed by The Star, which has also been autographed by Neil Warnock and the entire Blades team.
The shirt is currently up for auction on Internet auction site Ebay at a starting price of £300. (here is the link)
The cash-starved Millers have set a target of raising £1 million by March 25 to stave off closure - and have so far raised more than £265,000.
Millers fundraiser Mick Mills, of Maltby, whose network of friends includes a pal of Sheffield-born Sean, persuaded the movie star to support efforts to save Rotherham United from going under.
Mick said: "Sean came into the country to watch the Blades play against Crewe.
"A mutual friend accompanied him to the match and asked if he could help me out with my fundraising events. To his credit, he generously donated the shirt after he had got the team and Neil Warnock to add their signatures."
A staunch follower of Rotherham United, Mick has organised charity auctions to help the Save Our Millers campaign and is currently arranging a race night at Maltby Miners' Institute tomorrow.
"I cannot believe how kind this is as a gesture. Sean is typical of so many Sheffield fans who have shown compassion for the Millers plight," added Mick.
"This kind of attitude shows we can all pull together and recognise the importance of saving the Millers."
The Ebay auction for the framed shirt, which features the message 'Good Luck To The Millers', ends on Monday at 4.49pm.
