While most actors consider it a bad omen to call Macbeth anything
other than "the Scottish play", James Bond star Samantha
Bond, now rehearsing the Bard's classic with Sean Bean, has no
such qualms. "We've been saying 'Macbeth!' all the time,"
the 39-year old bravely told us after Sunday's staging of Funny
Women at London's Palace Theatre, where she performed alongside
Frances Barber, far right, in aid of breast cancer charities.
"Actually I'm not worried at all. We've been rehearsing
Macbeth at a studio with a lovely garden. The first day I saw
a magpie (an omen of bad luck, as in one for sorrow) and thought
'Are you alone or are there more?' There were more - his wife,
their six children, their 12 grandchildren and all their cousins."
Samantha, right, returns as Miss Moneypenny in Bond film Die Another
Day next month as Macbeth opens at London's Albery Theatre.
"I played Lady Macbeth in drama school and some lines came
back to me, much to Mr Bean's irritation. I call him 'Mr Bean'.
It never occurred it might sound like I was sending him up."
We believe you Sam.
