DVD Review by Winona Kent For fans of Bean, the best part of this gore-fest is watching for the humorous, slightly-less-than serious twinkle in Sean's eyes as he delivers some of John Ryder's best lines. He's having a good time playing a baddie - and Ryder is one of the nastiest to have made his way onto Sean's CV. Fans will also enjoy the 20-minute long Deleted Scenes bonus feature - the bits of Sean that were left on the cutting room floor. In some cases it's only a few extra seconds, but the snipped out footage is edited into the existing scenes so it's easy to see where and when they were meant to happen. |
The last of the Deleted Scenes on the DVD is the alternate ending ("too terrifying for theatres!"). I think I prefer the current ending, but it's interesting to see how Director Dave Meyers and the writers perceived Grace's character. If they'd used the alternate ending instead of the one that made the final cut, I think we'd have a whole different take on what kind of person she actually is. If you want to brave the spoilers and find out what happens in the alternate ending, highlight the blank space below, and the description will magically appear. In the alternate ending, everything is the same up to the point where Grace points the gun at Ryder. But she's out of ammunition, and the gun just clicks. Instead of shooting him in the head, she hits him with the gun. He falls to the road, and she continues to smash the gun into his head until he's dead. Sound effects and some quick editing indicate she's cracked his skull open. A crane shot from overhead shows blood pooling on the road around Ryder's head, as she gives him a few extra kicks for good measure, and then walks away. |
