UK Music Week Chart

Last Update: 29 April 2006

UK Music Week
The Commercial Radio Network is working together to bring UK Music Week
to the airwaves – a national event kicking off on Monday 24 April that will
celebrate the very best of UK music with a week of exclusive artist interviews
as well as live tracks from the best of established and new British artists.
Every one of 272 commercial radio stations will be celebrating in their own
style, with special events and gigs around the country, broadcasting to
over 47 million listeners across the period.

The week will culminate with the UK Music Week Chart – a four-hour
show, broadcast from 3-7pm on Monday 1 May across the Commercial
Radio Network. The chart will count down the 40 most popular artists of all
time, as voted for by listeners and will be packed with live
performances from artists including Will Young, Sugababes and KT
Tunstall, artist profiles and celebrity guest presenters including
Ricky Gervais, Christian Slater, Sean Bean and Denise Van Outen.

Commercial radio listeners across the UK are voting furiously for
their favourite all time artist - spanning all music genres, and from all
over the UK – from George Michael to the Gorillaz, from Massive
Attack to McFly. Listeners can vote by text to 82224 or by registering
online at the official UK Music Week website www.ukmusicweek.co.uk which is
packed with information on what’s going on throughout the week as
well as all the latest news and gossip from the music world.

From town-to-town, city-to-city across the UK, radio stations will be
urging listeners to vote for their favourite artists, organising live
sessions and linking up with concerts and gigs in their area to give
away fantastic prizes. British artists are working with their local
radio stations to get involved with UK Music Week and offer listeners
unique experiences.

UK Music Week follows hard on the heels of the huge success of
UKRadioAid and Live8 – events that have demonstrated the
collaborative power of Commercial Radio to reach over 47 million listeners across
the UK.

Following UK Music Week, details will be announced for a new grass
roots initiative to encourage the development of the next generation
of UK talent.

“This is the biggest and most audacious project that a unified
commercial radio has ever undertaken; it is a testament to the power
of commercial radio and the talent that works in this industry, that we
have put together something so exciting, and so relevant to each
station’s listeners”
Jonathan Gillespie, UK Music Week Project Director
