...Having Michael Douglas play the main part of the psychiatrist Conrad was a choice just as prominent as wrong. The aging lady-killer Douglas one does neither believe the concerned familyman nor the understanding psychiatrist. In each scene with the gangster Koster, played by the British actor Sean Bean, one could as easily imagine Douglas in this role.

Bean on the other hand, with his open features and his honest eyes would have been the far better and more credible cast for Conrad. But as yet smart Douglas - surely no bad actor - is still the bigger star and has consequently the right to play the "good guy"... (Wolfgang Hübner, NWZ, 01.15.02)
