US producers Steven G Kaplan and Gregg L Daniel have joined forces with
entrepreneur Richard Katz to form Rainstorm Entertainment, an LA-based
independent film production company that aims to make cost-effective
movies by original writers and directors. Rainstorm is already in
post-production on the black comedy, The Big Empty, which it produced
with Echo Lake Productions and co-financer Aura Entertainment, which
will handle international sales during MIFED. The Big Empty marks the
directorial debut of writer Steve Anderson and boasts an ensemble cast
including Jon Favreau, Rachael Leigh Cook, Kelsey Grammer, Daryl Hannah,
Sean Bean, Adam Beach and Joey Lauren Adams.

Rainstorm will also be executive producing writer-director Clint Hutchison's
action-romance road movie Ginger and Jack, which is currently uncast.
Hutchison previously wrote and co-directed Kaplan and Daniel's first
production together, the award-winning horror comedy Terror Tract.
The company has also signed a three-project deal with Steve Anderson and a
two-project deal with Hutchison and Lance Dreesen, the co-director on Terror
Tract.

Other Rainstorm projects in development include: All American Dad,
newcomer director Craig Moss' comedy about a man's attempts to bond
with his hipster son en route to a football tryout; and Lost In The
Translation, a black comedy by Jeff Lenick about a suicidal young woman's
rediscovery of life. In a statement today Kaplan said: "After our artistic and
financial success with Terror Tract, we really saw the potential in this
partnership as we brought so many essential elements together. It made
sense to form a company capitalising on my legal and business acumen and
creative instincts, Richard's financial savvy and Gregg's extensive production
experience and creative vision."

Kaplan also serves as managing shareholder of the business law firm,
Levinson & Kaplan. Daniel is a graduate of the American Film Institute and
has held posts in development, feature production and visual effects at
Disney as well as producing promotional projects for the NBC and CBS
television networks. Katz was an original investor in The Big Empty and
Terror Tract and has a financial background in corporate mergers and
acquisitions.
